Bill Cornish
Safety & Facilities Engineer

About Bill:

Bill Cornish brings more than 30 years of experience in safety, facilities engineering, construction management, and quality assurance to his supporting role at SCOPE Safety & Excellence. His career includes positions with Lockheed Martin, Martin Marietta, and General Electric, where he worked alongside skilled trades, engineers, and operational leaders to support safe, reliable workplaces.

At Lockheed Martin, Bill served as a Environmental, Safety & Health Engineer and Facilities Engineer. His experience spans hazardous energy control, electrical safety, fire protection, contractor safety, incident investigation, and emergency response. He also led a 24-person construction team, chaired the Northeast regional safety committee, and developed employee training focused on safe work practices and injury prevention.

Bill’s background in both safety and facility operations gives him a practical understanding of how work gets done—and how to make it safer. He holds a bachelor’s degree in management from Widener University and an associate degree in engineering from Delaware County Community College.

Working alongside his wife, Charlene, Bill supports SCOPE’s mission of empowering leaders, engaging teams, and improving systems. He brings technical depth and hands-on experience to help connect safety principles with practical workplace improvements.

About Charlene:

For more than three decades, my professional journey has centered on one question: How do we create environments where people can thrive?

My career began in engineering and evolved into a lifelong commitment to protecting people, improving systems, and helping organizations become better at what they do. With a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Drexel University and an MPH in Occupational Health & Safety Management from Tulane University, I have spent my career working across chemical, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, and complex technical environments. Along the way, I became a Certified Safety Professional, Safety Management Professional, and Six Sigma Black Belt.

My work has taken me from industrial hygiene and regulatory compliance to enterprise strategy, safety culture, leadership engagement, participative ergonomics, incident management, and continuous improvement. I have had the privilege of leading initiatives that reduced risk, improved systems, engaged leaders, and produced measurable results—including participative ergonomics work that achieved more than $2 million in annual cost savings and an average 95% risk reduction.

Today, that experience has evolved into SCOPE Safety & Operational Excellence, where I bring together the disciplines that have shaped my career: safety, employee engagement, leadership development, and operational excellence. My goal is not simply to help organizations comply with requirements, but to help leaders engage their people, understand their work, solve problems, and build stronger systems.

But my own journey has also taught me that well-being extends far beyond the workplace.

That realization inspired the creation of SCOPE Wellness Studio and an unexpected return to the classroom. I am currently pursuing my professional cosmetology license—not simply to learn the art of beauty, but to better understand the science, products, practices, and processes behind it. I am especially interested in the connection between hair, beauty, health, confidence, and overall wellness, and in translating complicated information into practical tools people can use to make more informed choices.

I am also becoming an author. My forthcoming book, Split Ends: Discovering God's Story Through Your Hair, brings together another dimension of my journey: the connection between our outward experiences and our inner transformation. Through the familiar story of hair—its changes, damage, growth, loss, renewal, and even its split ends—I explore themes of identity, purpose, resilience, and faith.

At the center of all of these pursuits is my faith formation. My faith is not simply another part of my biography; it increasingly shapes how I understand leadership, service, wellness, purpose, and this next chapter of my life. I believe our experiences—professional and personal, successes and setbacks alike—can become opportunities for growth when we remain open to where God is leading us.

At first glance, safety consulting, operational excellence, cosmetology, wellness, and writing may seem like very different paths. To me, they are connected by one purpose:

Helping people become safer, healthier, more confident, and better equipped to live and work with purpose.

That is the heart of SCOPE—and the work I am excited to continue.
